By: Karolina Sudol, Tracy Osawe (Ed.) and Liyah Covington (Ed.)

Dear readers, welcome back to the UPLJ! We look forward to another year of providing you with a platform to share both your legal and political knowledge.

On Tuesday August 13, our predecessors (Dan Wagner, Editor-In-Chief and David Schneider, Senior Managing Editor) issued the second annual UPLJ publication. You may view that publication by clicking on the “Publications” section on the main page of our website. Thank you Dan and David for taking the time to finalize all aspects of our second publication. We wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors!

The UPLJ is currently accepting article submissions for its third annual publication! Submissions are open to undergraduate students only. Students can only submit one article that focuses on a contemporary legal and/or political issue. However, we are open to a variety of disciplines, research methods and analysis. The deadline for submission is Sunday November 3, 2024 at 11:59 P.M. The selected authors will receive acceptance letters by Friday November 29, 2024.

Please note that the UPLJ accepts blog entries throughout the year. Blog entries can be in the form of a brief article (2,000 words or less), an interview or a podcast. Please feel free to contact fairleighuplj@gmail.com with any questions, thoughts, etc.

Please be advised that the UPLJ is in the process of establishing new merch. Our designs will be available for pre-order soon! Updates will be posted on the UPLJ Instagram page this coming week.

A New UPLJ Board

The UPLJ is excited to announce the establishment of its first all-female board! Our board is composed of talented and hardworking FDU students who are committed to expanding the reach of the UPLJ. Please see the header above for photos of our new board members. You can also learn more about our new board members by clicking on the “About” section on the main page of our website (“Our Team” tab).

The UPLJ would like to expand its team of blog and article editors. If you are interested in joining the UPLJ, please submit an application by Friday September 6, 2024. The blog and article editor positions are open to all years! You will receive a response regarding your application by Monday September 9, 2024.

FDU Pre-Law Community

The UPLJ is proud to be a part of a wide range of clubs and organizations that make up the FDU Pre-Law community. This academic year we plan to collaborate with the FDU Mock Trial Team and the Pre-Law Honors Society (“the PLHS”).

I. FDU Mock Trial Team

This past summer the Mock Trial Team successfully hosted thirty students for the Mini Law School summer program for high school students (grades 9-12). Due to popular demand, the Mock Trial Team is planning to host its first Mini Law School session in the fall. Additional information will be provided as soon as it is available.

This year the Mock Trial Team is collaborating with the UPLJ to ensure that high school students are permitted to submit blog entries for publication. A blog entry written by a high school student will be available on Friday August 30 at 9:00 A.M.

II. FDU Pre-Law Honors Society

The PLHS is for FDU students who have demonstrated interest and commitment to the FDU Pre-Law program. Students across all majors may be inducted into the PLHS as early as the end of their freshman year. If you are interested, PLHS applications will be available Tuesday September 3. Applicants are also required to attend a mandatory orientation (also on Tuesday September 3) from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

This year, the UPLJ will collaborate with the PLHS to sponsor the third annual Pre-Law Happy Hour event. The event, which is a networking opportunity for FDU students, will be held in the Spring of 2025. Additional information will be available closer to the date of the event.

2024-2025 Academic Year

This year the UPLJ is dedicated to bringing awareness to the legal and political issues affecting our generation. We are inviting all students and professionals across the nation to assist us in achieving this goal! Please be on the lookout for scholarship opportunities and academic competitions that will operate to encourage both prospective and current college students.

Be sure to subscribe to the UPLJ and follow us on Instagram to receive real time updates! To kick off the school year, the first five people to subscribe to the UPLJ will receive our newest UPLJ merch as soon as it is available! Please visit our Instagram for additional information on how to enter the contest.
